The RIIABL is an open-age men’s amateur baseball league covering Rhode Island with teams from Westerly to Woonsocket and nearby Massachusetts. Games are 9-innings and played with wooden or composite bats on weeknights and anytime on weekends. The league was founded in 1999.
New teams can be added before each season by obtaining a 60% favorable vote from the existing teams. There is a $400 entry fee per team. New teams must also provide an additional $200 deposit which is either refunded or credited at the end of their first season. Each team is responsible for all of its own expenses, including uniforms, fields, baseballs, equipment, and umpire fees. Therefore, player fees vary by team.
In 2014, there will be 14 teams playing a 26-game regular season schedule running from the beginning of May to the beginning of August. The top 8 teams qualify for the playoffs, which consist of 3-game quarterfinal and semifinal series, and a 7-game final series running through late August. The team winning the league championship receives the Nicholas A. Graham Trophy. The team which best exemplifies sportsmanship as voted by the team managers receives the Arthur L. Nagle Trophy.
